Large orders are executed without moving the market which is a good thing. It is not easy to buy or sell large quantities of stock as the other side tends to move away from you. <br /><br />As for the exchanges hating dark pools...The NYSE recently announced the acquisition of NYFIX which operates the Millennium Dark pool.
